Xbox One engineer explains the purpose of DRM

Hey guys!

Someone claiming to be an Xbox engineer took to Pastebin recently to try to clear up some misunderstandings regarding the Xbox One. Read the post here at Pastebin.

Quite interesting and I personally like the sound of it. I certainly would not mind getting my games cheaper and not having to use the discs. I guess I am used to it from using Steam all the time.

Well I hope that what he is saying is true. Time will tell!

E3 2013

Hey guys!

E3 is going strong right now as I am sure most of you know. One thing that became clear yesterday is that Microsoft seems to want to distance themselves from the hardcore gamer community and I think it is safe to say that they succeeded with that yesterday.

Sony on the other hand were quick to capitalize on Microsofts self destructive ways by announcing that the PS4 will indeed support used games and will not require online check-in. Say whaaat.

You can follow all the gaming drama on various websites around the net or check the E3 website.

Take care!

Message from Hell by Josh Mosqueira

Yo!

The new game director of Diablo 3 has made a post on the official Diablo 3 site. Check it out as he has some interesting points.

I have to ask though. Why are the Diablo 3 game directors always from Dawn of War? Seems strange to me.

Anyways, have a good one!

Current state of Diablo 3 patch 1.0.8

Yo!

I thought I would do a write up on Diablo 3 now that it has been out for over a year. As you may or may not know I have been playing D3 ever since it was released and I have like some of you been very very dissapointed with the game.

Maybe you have seen my rant video about Diablo 3 that I made during patch 1.0.6? If not then thats ok. It really isnt much more than bitter whining.

I do however feel that the points I made there were valid. And to some extent they still are valid. What are those points? Normally I would say go watch the video but it is almost 30 minutes long so I will spare you the pain.

My two major problems with Diablo 3 was that maps were not random due to the exits always being in the same place and that loot stat rolls are way to random. For example you could get a wand with STR and no INT. Or a bow with INT and no DEX. Or how about a level 63 item with 200 dps.

These two gamebreaking issues still exist to this day but Blizzard has added som stuff that I feel takes away from the pain of getting constant crap drops and the non-random maps.

I have started playing Diablo 3 again after quite a long break. The reasons for this are as follows:

1. Monster Power in public games. This allows you to use your preferred MP setting while playing in a public game. Now you can team up with other players in public games and actually be challenged while farming. It was way to easy without it and I feel that this was one of the main reasons that the maps became so boring after a while.

2. Filter for the type of run you want to make. You can now filter your public game search to different modes. If you just want to farm keywardens then you can select that. Very nice option in order to quickly find likeminded players.

3. Join any quest option. This option is very simple but it does have a profound effect on how fast you will be bored or not. Instead of just farming the same old place in any given act you can now click to join a public game currently in "any quest". It does provide some variety to your daily runs.

4. Monster density has been increased. More monsters in MP1+ means more action. Great.

5. Book of Cain. You can now identify all the items you have in your inventory with just one click at the book of Cain which believe it or not, makes me not feel too bad about always getting crap drops. Atleast now I don't have to stand there and identify them one by one just to sell them.

6. Notification whenever someone in your group engages a treasure pugmy or an elite pack. Never miss out on the loot. Thanks.

All of the above things combined actually make the game as a whole a ton better than it was just a couple of months ago and this makes me happy. I do love the franchise after all and I am glad I am once again feeling compelled to play it.

That being said there are a few points that need to be adressed before I finally can call it the "perfect" Arpg.

Loot needs to be adressed.

1. Secondary stats on items. A bow for example should not be able to have INT. What is the point of including these stats on an item when they are practically useless on the specific item? Only a DH use the bow and no DH will want a bow with INT over DEX.

2. Damage values. A level 63 item for example should not be able to roll with a damage value of 300 DPS. Every 10 item levels or so should have parameters within which it can roll a damage value. 1-10 could be 1-20 dps and ilvl 63 should be from 1000 dps to ???. Just as an example. You get the point.

3. New items. We need more and new items. Not really a big deal but I just thought I would throw it in there. The new archon armor craftables are a great addition to the game.

Overall I think drop rates are fine and really should not be increased anymore. Good and even great loot should be hard to get. I just wish that when you get an ilvl 63 item you would not have to throw it away because it has shitty dps or stats that are completely out of place.

The auction house.

What can we do about this? Or even so what can Blizzard do about this. I really do not know. The prices are so inflated at the moment it is absolutely ridiculous. I try to stay away from there as much as possible.

I have never bought an item for real money and probably never will. And the way prices are now on the AH I probably never will make any good gold from there either. I did sell a witching hour belt for 8 million gold the other day though. That was nice I guess. For the guy that bought it. ;)

Anyways, the point of all this is that I am back to playing D3 again and there will be some videos in the future where I talk about farming spots, PVP, items and abilities.

Until next time!

Razer Atrox

Hey guys!

Are you a fan of fighting games like myself? Of course you are. There is not much that beat the fast paced action of Marvel vs Capcom 3 or Street Fighter 4. But are you playing those games the way they are supposed to be played? With an Arcade stick?

If not then you might want to check out Razers new Arcade stick Razer Atrox which is available for preorder right now. It works for both Xbox 360 and PC and is fully moddable.

You can also check out their store to the right there if you feel like browsing around. ;)

Xbox One reveal - highlights

Here you have some nice highlights from the unveiling of the new Xbox One. ;)

Xbox One - Always online? Maybe.

Hey guys!

More and more information about the Xbox One keeps coming in. Today we can read on Kotaku that the Xbox One does require an internet connection in order to play. Or does it?

According to this update in the article it seems that Microsoft themselves are not sure. Or atleast haven't decided yet.

"While Phil [Harrison] discussed many potential scenarios around games on Xbox One, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail," a Microsoft rep said. "There have been reports of a specific time period — those were discussions of potential scenarios, but we have not confirmed any details today, nor will we be."

Either way having to be connected atleast once in a 24 hour period is most likely not a hassle for us people that are always online but it really should not be a requirement. Should you not be allowed to play on your new Xbox One if you don't have a connection? Seems pretty stupid to me.

Hopefully Microsoft can sort this out soon and provide us all with more solid details on exactly what you can and can't do with their new console.

Take care!

Microsoft and the Xbox One reveal!

Yo!

So here we are. Microsoft finally unveiled the Xbox One and man there is alot of buzz going on right now. A lot of people being unhappy with everything from the design to the lack of games they are showing to the fact that most games will need to be installed directly on the hard drive.

Personally I am not that worried. I actually like the design as it reminds me of an A/V reciever. It looks cool. Also the inital unveilings are in my opinion never pretty and with time I am sure the Xbox One will have a ton of great games to offer.

Check out more about the Xbox One here.

Until next time!

Metro: Last light

Hey guys!

Soon Metro: Last light will be released. This makes me Happy Mike. However, I am a PC gamer and I just read that you will not be able to set your FOV in this game. You will also be unable to turn off aim assist in the menus. The only way to change this is by tinkering in the config files.

I find this irritating. These are simple things that could and should be readily available for a gamer to change. On the PC atleast.

Anyways. Look forward to my review of this game in the next few days. I am pretty sure it will scare the crap out of me so that will be fun. I guess.

Later!

Human face rendering demo

Hey guys!

Do you like tech demos? If you do then you are in luck. Nvidia just released their Ira face demo for us regular mortals to play around with. You can find it here.

I suppose the goal is to escape the uncanny valley and even if I am not sure they managed to do it I still think it is a very cool demo.

Check it!

Diablo 3 patch 1.0.8 is LIVE

Hey guys!

Finally the new Diablo 3 patch is out. You can read the patch notes here. So what do we think of this patch. Well first off there seems to be a massive bug that came with it.
Certain players have been able exploit the AH to gain massive amount of golds. Literally billions and billions so well done there!

Other than that Gold and magic find has gotten a buff. Not sure if that is a good thing but hey it might make it more fun since there really is not much to do in the game nowadays. Maps are still not random and the loot you find still comes with randomized stats so good luck there. :)

You can now search for multiplayer games based on certain criteria such as if you want to do a key warden run or just kill monsters etc. This is a very good addition to the matchmaking system in my opinion.

I am sad to say that Diablo 3 still suffers from the same old core problems (non random maps and random stats on loot) so at the end of the day this patch is quite underwhelming for me.

Well, have a great day and enjoy your gaming!

Fairly Angry Mike: Simcity - Review

Yo!

I review Simcity. Check it out. I am not sure why the video has those black borders this time. For some reason fraps decided to screw me over I guess?

All in all Simcity is a decent game for people that like those kind of games. I find Simcity to be somewhat boring after a while and I personally will not play it to any extent.

Ah well! I will try to fix it until next time. Enjoy the review and please do subscribe.

Sc2: Heart of the Swarm

Yo!

So now HoTS have been released and we get to continue the epic adventure of Raynor and Kerrigan. I have been looking forward to this for some time as I have always been an avid Starcraft fan. Now, I have not released any videos of me playing Sc2 and the truth is I was on a break. For about 2 years.

The reason for this is simple. I get too emotional and angry when I play. Even when I win. After a win I get angry because the guy who played me dared to play me. It is insulting to me that someone that was that shit would play against someone like me. Haha I am/was sick.

Team games were even worse. I remember me and my brother owning and pwning as a team. Until one day when we lost and it just escalated into an all out skype brawl that must have lasted for about 1 or 2 hours. I don't think we talked for about 2 weeks after that. Thats when I "quit" playing Starcraft 2. Ah good times!

However, now that HoTS is released and I have a blog/youtube channel known as Fairly Angry Mike I figured it might be time for some proper rage videos.

So look forward to that in the coming days/weeks.

Take care for now and good luck in Sc2 Heart of the Swarm!

Logitech G930 Wireless 7.1 Headset Review

Here is a new review for you all. This time I take a look at the G930 Wireless 7.1 surround headset from Logitech. It is quite a good headset that emulates surround sound very well in the games that support surround.

You can find this headset almost anywhere online so if you are on the lookout for a food quality headset then definitely check this one out.

Peace!

Simcity launch

Hey kids!

Happy days. If you pre ordered Sim City you can try it out now. Or can you? Probably not. There are some severe server issues going on and the launch is looking a bit unstable. Reminds me of the Diablo 3 launch.

This is one of the hazards with preordering or buying a game on launch day when it has "always online" type DRM. Many players will surely be frustrated by this and rightfully so. It appears it is too much to ask for a stable launch these days when it comes to a game that is always connected. Why is this?

Surely experience is not something that you get first hand only. There is a certain amount of experience to gain by looking at other peoples mistakes. Such as drugs or alcoholism. If I see or hear someone talking about how shit it is to be addicted to drugs then that kinda tells me something. It tells me don't do a line of coke. It might end badly.
The same kind of logic should apply to launches. Diablo 3 had some serious issues with the servers on launch day and you would think that other companies would look at this and go Hmmm lets not do that. But no. The issue is most likely a matter of cost. Too bad.

The only tip I have to give frustrated gamers out there is to never preorder games. Wait an extra week or so and buy it then. Unless you are hardcore. If you are hardcore and plan on being the best at your specific game then you might not have the luxury of waiting. Sucks to be you I guess.

Another thought that popped up in my head is to pirate the shit out of these games. But since I am super duper against piracy I would never say such a thing.

Peace out yall!

Fairly Angry Mike: Alpha Prime - Review

Alpha Prime review! Alpha Prime is an indie game with some seriously stupid voice acting. This is also what makes the game stand out among other fps games. With the voice acting being so incredibly bad it somehow turns out incredible. You should get this game for that reason only.

Playstation 4

So here we are. The day after Sony announced their new console and that it will be called Playstation 4. Gasp.

I have a couple of thoughts on this. First off, they did not show the actual console. I find that very weird. Not really upsetting for me as Im not a fan of sony but still. Isnt that weird?

I read on kotaku that Shuhei Yoshida said: "we have to keep something new for later. Otherwise you'd get bored." I think he is right.

We did get to see the new controller. I guess it looks alright. Looks like a playstation controller really. What else... oh yeah streaming gameplay on PSN. That is actually something I think is cool so good job on that.
Other than that there were some games announced. Nothing awesome really. Killzone, Infamous bla bla Final Fantasy bla Diablo 3. Oh really? Yeh really.

All in all very underwhelming and the funny thing is that the only thing I really "cared" about was the graphics quality of the games that were shown. Because like I mentioned yesterday, now we know what the next gen of console ports will look like.
Watch Dogs is a next gen game for the PS4 for example. Check out a gameplay video here. Looks pretty cool. But lets be honest. The PC could do this 4 years ago. Hopefully we will see more developers doing PC games for the PC.

Highly unlikely but I can hope.

Playstation Meeting

Yo!

So tonight the Playstation Meeting will take place and there is a lot of hype going around. Mainly around Playstation 4 and everyone is hoping for an announcement. As a semi bitter PC gamer I personally won't be having high hopes of anything special.

In the end it is just the next step of "limited" hardware that PC gamers will have to conform to. I guess the real question is; What will the next gen of console ports look like?

Who knows? Time will tell.

Sony have been pretty good at pushing out new types of media though such as Bluray etc so I certainly hope I won't have to buy a new Playstation for that purpose.

Various news sites out there will be doing live streams of the event so remember to check it out.

Gaming pirates are annoying morons

Piracy is one of those things that you will see discussions about in forums once in a while. I am sure you have seen it and also participated. It doesnt really matter if you pirate games or not, everyone has something to say about it.

Once upon a time in my life I too used to pirate games. I was in my teens and did not have any money to buy games. So I pirated them knowing full well that it was a "crime" but also knowing full well that I wasnt likely to get caught or punished for it. After all I wasnt selling games or anything like that so why would anyone be interested in going after me. And I think that is how it is for most people out there.

However, one thing happened that led to me not pirating games anymore. I got a job. A job means money and money meant I no longer had an excuse to download isos and all that shit. So I have been "clean" for about 12 years or so.

This does not seem to be the case for everyone though. For some reason people that do have money to buy games still download them. Why is this?

I recently had a discussion with someone about piracy. This person was really looking forward to a certain game so naturally we talked about how awesome it will be etc etc. The game is the new Sim City by the way.
And when I asked if they are going to buy the special edition or the normal one, the person answered with neither. I will download it. Ok?

Why? You have a job. You look forward to the game being released. You know it is a good game. And in case you dont know you can always try it out with a demo if there is one.
The answer to that is that EA are greedy. What?

Ok so that is one argument I hear alot. Game companies are greedy.

Here is the thing. Companies are there to make money. That is their purpose. Why is it that when a company sets a price that you think is too high you immediately resort to stealing the software? This is something that always pissed me off.

You don't go to a store, any store and ask the price of a product and when the price is too high for your liking you steal the product! This only happens with software. It is mindboggling how people become thieves when they think they can't get caught.

If the price is too high you don't buy the product. You don't buy the product? You shut the fuck up about said product. End of story.

Another argument I hear often is that I download games to try them out. If I then like the game I will buy it.

Never in the history of gaming has this ever happened. No one has ever pirated a game, stopped playing it because they realize it is really good and then gone out and bought it. I don't care if you decided to buy the game after you cleared it. You are still a douche. Try the DEMO first.

Here is another gem. Convenience. It is a bother to go the store to buy games. Sorry. Direct downloads from Steam, Origin, Gamers Gate and what have you makes that argument invalid. And even if we did not have these convienient online stores it would still not be a valid argument. You go to the shop to buy food and other crap. So you can do the same for games.

DRM. Now this one is probably the biggest reason for piracy nowadays. People do not like DRM. And they like to whine about how they don't like DRM and how companies fail for wanting gamers to verify online or always be online while playing. While I agree that having to be online constantly is something that should not exist I do believe a onetime online verification is the right way to do it.
Either way you are not entitled to pirate a game. You have every detail about the game available to you before you buy it. If it says DRM then don't buy it if you can't handle that shit.

Why is it that gamers pirate games and software when they feel the price is not worth it? Why do they still feel entitled to actually PLAY and USE the software?

The answer is quite simple. Pirates are absolute morons.

They are cowards and thieves who only do it because they know they will get away with it. Was it any other product in the real world they would not steal it.

Pussies.

There is another category of pirates that I don't fully hate as much. The ones that say "Yeh I know that Im stealing and if I get caught I will pay the price for it and I would deserve it". This is very rare. I think it has happened once or twice that someone has said that.
But there is a certain amount of respect that you have to give that guy or girl for not being a fucking hypocrite hiding behind a bunch of lame excuses. So good for you if you are one of those thieves. :)

Food for thought: I used to work in the "gaming" business and piracy is well represented there aswell. How about that? One could argue that that is even worse. Supposedly because piracy is such a huge problem for games companies. Right? :D

If you guys have thoughts on this, just put them in the comments below.

Take care!

What happened to the Space Combat sim genre?

Hello!

Ever since I got my Hotas X flightstick I have been revisiting a favourite genre of mine. The space combat sims. In the last week I have been enjoying the shit out of Freespace 2 and even bought a couple of other games like Dark Horizon and Strike suit zero.

Other than that though it is a very dead genre and only Strike suit zero is "new" of the 3 I mentioned. Why is this? The Freespace games are some of my favourite games ever made with a great story and pretty amazing graphics for its time.

I am happy to see that with Steam alot more indie games are being developed and that among these are a few space combat sims. Sol:Exodus is a game that I have had my eyes on but I have not bought it yet. I will though. Just because.

Strike suit zero is also a game that was supposed to "bring back" the space combat sim genre but I suppose it is just too niche. I find it weird though when I see that the flight sim genre seems to be alright with a number of titles being released each year. Is "space" and "Scifi" really what makes the difference?

For me the space combat sims and scifi represents the dream of us humans one day taking the first true step out among the stars. It is true adventure. The exploration of space and in the case of the space combat sims, the battle for survival against the unknown.

Freespace 2. Attack on the Ravana inside a nebula. An old game but one of the best.

You get alot of this stuff from fps games nowadays but nothing beats the overwhelming sense of urgency and immersion that you get from sitting in your small spacefighter going up against a capital warship. Dodging missiles and lasers while at the same time worrying about your subsystems malfunctioning.

Everything about the space combat sims are on such a different scale and scope that it is not even comparable to other sims. We need more of them.

Either way I will always be a fan and I am going to review all of these games in the coming weeks in order to further promote the epicness that is the space combat sims.

By the way. If you like Freespace 2 but think the graphics are a litte dated then check out the Freespace 2 source code project. It is pretty much an overhaul project and it works very well.

Take care everyone.

Mmorpgs suck. Why?

Good day!

Today I had a discussion with a friend about the state of mmorpgs and how they all seemingly fail to distinguish themselves from the WoW norm. Quite frankly it pisses me off.

WoW is an amazing game. It is WoW. Why other mmorpgs have to follow the exact same formula is a mystery to me. You would think that they have learned by now that it does not work. Only WoW works in that format because Blizzard has perfected it. It is what they do.

Anyways, the most recent games that I have played that are even just a little bit different are Tera online and Darkfall. And lets face it, neither of those games are perfect. They are good. But not great.

Darkfall is also being relaunched soon but since Aventurine is such an incompetent developer the date is being pushed back over and over. If it was one thing I learned during my stint with the original Darkfall it was that you can not trust Aventurine at all.

And so here we are. A new mmorpg is being launched called Neverwinter. Guess what is about. ;)

Still in closed beta for now it will certainly be "interesting" to see how it turns out. Have high hopes for this one? I don't.

Take care everyone!

Tera Online Free to play

Yo!

I always had a very lackluster interest for mmorpgs. I used to play WoW alot and after it got boring no other mmorpg has been able to keep me interested. I do think it is mainly because the combat always suck. They always seem to use tab targeting and I really do hate tab targeting.

Ive been playing Tera Online on and off for a while and I have to say that it is somewhat refreshing since the combat system is more action oriented. You actually have to aim at your enemy in order to hit and if you dont aim at them you will miss. Makes sense right? In other words it is up to you and not some hidden stat rolls that dictate hit or miss. I like it.

Tera is now Free to Play and hopefully this will mean more people on the servers. Well, atleast I will play it even if it is just casually. :)

Check out Tera here.

Peace!

Fairly Angry Mike: Thrustmaster Dual Analog 4 Gamepad - Recension

Tjena!

Jay Wilson leaves the Diablo 3 team.

Here we go!

What do we say now eh? Jay Wilson, the man who is very much responsible for everything that is wrong with Diablo 3 in my opinon is no longer part of the project. I can only hope that this means positive changes will come but who knows?

Mr. Wilson is not fired though and will work with future projects within Blizzard so lets hope it will be on a game within a genre he is more suited for!

Read his forum post here.

Diablo 3 - Whine

Yo!

Me whining about the state of Diablo 3. It is something quite special when you have over 300 hours in a game that you kind of hate.

I guess it is because I always think that it will get better in the next patch.

I believe in Blizzard and the quality that they put in their games but they are so very slow. First world problems I suppose.

Anyways! Check out the video and take care!

Lördags godis

Tjena!

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine - Kort recension

Tjena!

Natural Selection 2 - Marine Gameplay

Tja!

Natural Selection 2 - Alien gameplay

Tjena!

Osv.

Word.

Path of Exile video

Tja!

Har lirat lite Path of Exile open beta.

Ha det!

Diablo 3 Demon Hunter vs Sokahr the Keywarden

Tjena!

Men men.

Visst!
